Marie has been a frequent guest speaker at conferences, seminars, meetings and events throughout Hillsborough County, speaking on such topics as Small Business, Women in Business and Entrepreneurship. Marie has been married to her husband Doug Gilmore for 20 years and they have 3 boys ages 15, 12 and the newest addition Rhett, 2.
Marie has had a life-long passion for journalism. She graduated with honors, in 1996, with a communications degree from the journalism program at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta. Worked for the Calgary Sun daily newspaper before moving to Tampa, Fl, where she accepted the Assistant Editor position at the Advisor Magazine. Marie then worked as a features correspondent for the Tampa Tribune and accepted a position at the New Tampa Neighborhood News. In a few short years, she advanced from assistant editor to assignment editor and finally managing editor. In 2002, she launched the Osprey Observer Community Newspaper. Under Marie’s direction, the Osprey Observer grew from a 750-home hand-delivered newsletter to four monthly editions direct-mailed to more than 70,000 homes per month.
In 2008, the Osprey Observer expanded by purchasing the 20-year-old Christian Voice Monthly newspaper and doubled the circulation of the newspaper to 450 churches and businesses in South East Hillsborough County.
The Osprey Observer also was recognized as the 2007 Small Business of the Year for the Brandon Chamber of Commerce and recently celebrated 15 years in business. Additionally, Marie will receive an Official Commendation for community contributions by from the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners in April 2017.
